  1. Angie and I chatted today - she feel that some of her sektch problem work is becoming redundant so she is going to spend the week reading/researching/thinking and writing....The thread is the possibility of perception opened by the discovery of The Production of Space by Henri Lefebvre...other possibilities include the Phenomenology of Perception by Merleau Ponty and Questions of Perception by Holl, Palasmaa and Perez-Gomez. Some of this material is very philosophical - esp the Merleau Ponty....We can find many secondary sources that utilize this work in more specifically architectural writing. But it is important to be aware of the lines of thinking that your work is contextualized by so we would like to encourage this week of research hoping for a nice little research paper to add to the thesis proposal....

  2. As usual, I thought of something else. In the creating of your thesis statement, we know that you want to study movement...but towards what end? Is about a individual awareness? A collective understanding of a specific urban condition? Are we all dancers inside - and architecture can teach us how? We think some thought towards bigger thesis idea: movement + architecture = ____________ (fill in the blank) This could be something to start to get clarity on quickly in the next two weeks...

  3. Angie - as usual, very thoughtful and provocative ideas expressed. When I saw your first image of the movement at the street corner (Denise and Mike will be proud of me to hear this) I thought it was the top view of your dancing ballerina. Very different scales with similar patternes of movement.
